This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have an intervention math class in a Title I school. I work with many students in 4th-6th grade. My students struggle from lack of experience, support at home, and the Pandemic years caused by the coronavirus when they lost learning time. My students love hands-on learning where they can touch tools and resources while practicing difficult ideas. These students have struggled with abstract math concepts.

The hands-on materials help them "see" the concept and practice it so they can understand the concept abstractly.

The students are able to move onto the abstract concept quickly after understanding how mathematics works with the manipulatives. These manipulatives help me to facilitate the students as they progress from conceptual to abstract understanding.
