Help me give my students hands-on math tools to support their understandings of math concepts and integrate extra math practice to master these concepts!
Every day, my students face incredible challenges as they strive to add, subtract, and complete 2nd-grade math curriculum while navigating through the struggles of having an often-misunderstood learning disability--dyslexia. As a Title I school, many of the students are economically disadvantaged. Special needs students need to have hands-on activities to help them learn in a multi-sensory type of classroom. Kinesthetic learners need to move around and experience a hands-on classroom in the school. Allowing my students to have new math manipulatives and materials to help them become more successful mathematicians. Having more activities that support our math program will allow for hands-on experimenting to master their mathematical skills. Also, having games that are differentiated at my fingertips to use with my students will help build their skills.
My students are all eager to learn and have a thirst for knowledge.
Each one of my students is special in their own way and I want to reach all of my students. Whether my students have ADHD, autism, or any other special needs, I want to make sure that all of my students have the outlets that they need.
My Project
Math is my favorite subject to teach in elementary school. However, as a teacher, ensuring you have a variety of teaching methods and strategies to keep students engaged in learning is a key component to great math instruction. In this project, I am asking for materials to help teach and support my variety of learners. The Roll & Solve Math Games will allow students to become masters at one game throughout the school year, but with different standards. Many of the items are large teacher resources to display on the board. Having students able to come up to the board to demonstrate understanding is always a favorite in my class. Regrouping, addition, and subtraction do not always come easy to my struggling learners, with the hands-on regrouping kits, this will assist students to not just understand the concept, but to provide evidence.
Measurement is always a part of the curriculum that I struggle with having fun activities or hands-on modeling for students.
The measurement game, measuring tapes, and measuring kit will allow students to have hands-on practice while learning to measure. This project has numerous resources in it that would allow me as a teacher to support my students' understanding of math concepts and deepen these understandings with these materials! I know these resources would really excite my students more about learning new math concepts while allowing me to continue to support learners who need more individualized practice. These materials would be a great addition to my math instruction and be integrated into daily learning!
