My students need 5 Math Instant Learning Centers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I'm an elementary-school teacher in New York. The school is labeled a Title I school, and I will be a Second-grade teacher in September. I am so excited about this new position, but what made me a little nervous was the lack of materials that I have for that grade. (This will be my first year teaching second grade.) I work in an underprivileged black and Hispanic neighborhood. The supplies in my school are very scarce.
As a teacher, I feel we need more math materials in our school in order to keep our children wanting to come to school and to learn more. Without proper materials, it is hard for these students to get the education they need to succeed in future grades. They must have this background knowledge in order to take successful steps on the rest of their educational path.
I would like math centers, so that my students can be creative thinkers and problem solvers. Second Grade is the beginning stage of our students learning, and without supplies it's hard for them to get the adequate knowledge they need to succeed in future grades. You have to have that background knowledge in order to make a successful step. Second Grade is not a testing grade, so the majority of the school's funding goes to those grades which need to achieve good test scores
The materials I am requesting—math manipulatives--will help me enormously because they will let me teach more projects and creative activities to my students. Second grade is very important! We need adequate supplies to help us teach each child what he/she should know. As I said, this is my first year teaching Second grade, and I need as much help as possible. In recent years, I have spent close to a $1000 a year to make sure adequate materials are in my classroom. It would be so great for the children to have all the new materials they need to succeed in Second grade. Thank you for considering this proposal!
