Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at Engineering and Technology Academy at Esteban Torres High School. Currently, my students face many challenges in their endeavors to achieve their educational goals. East Los Angeles is a low-income area, and my students rarely get a chance to have experiences outside of their neighborhoods. Many of my students suffer from poverty and face challenges such as undocumented immigration status, single-parent households, homelessness, and other great challenges. I need to have the right technology tools to support them in the distance during this trying time in our world's history. I teach Mathematics, and a tablet with a stylus is essential in delivering powerful lessons.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning because using an iPad will allow me to make interactive activities that will allow my students to access the curriculum more equitably. I will make videos using the touch screen and the stylus writing features. My students will be able to work at their own pace, rewinding as much as they need. These videos and other interactive assignments will help bridge the gap between students who only need to see things once and students who may need to go slower to understand the content of the lessons presented fully.
