Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It is the beginning of the school year and I need a starter kit. I do not know my students yet but I need certain supplies to start the school year. This is a new grade level for me and need some supplies different than last year.
These items will help my students in all academic subjects.
Every year, many of them cannot afford them, and therefore I have to buy a lot of the most basic supplies for them from my own funds
My school's enrollment is about 700 students and they all are on free lunch. We receive Title I funds in addition to funds for English Language Learners, which comprise about 40% of our total enrollment.
My Project
The use of whiteboards is a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math and word skills. Using the workshop model in math, students utilize their whiteboards for guided practice and to record modeled strategies. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. We also need whiteboard markers, math manipulatives such as fraction magnetic circles and bills so they don't get easily lost and can be reused year after year. I do teach my students to care for their supplies but pieces do get misplaced often. However, with most of these math manipulatives being magnetic, they will be able to use on their whiteboards and don't misplace as easy. I thank you in.advance for helping me with my project.
