This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a low-income school just outside a large city. My students come from families for whom education is a second thought. Their families are more concerned about putting food on the table and aren't able to purchase supplies for school.
My students are naturally inquisitive and have a deep desire to learn.
They are constantly asking to be taught more and more. I'm not asking for a handout for my students, I just want them to have an even playing field. They are like sponges soaking up information.
My Project
These items will make it easier for my students to have a basic knowledge of math facts. They don't have flashcards at home so need to spend time at school learning the facts. The games will make them more willing to practice their math skills without them knowing they are learning.
The games will also be used during indoor recess so that time during the school day is being used effectively.
These materials are targeted to the Common Core State Standards. The students will be able to learn while having fun which makes both teaching and learning more enjoyable for everyone.
