My students attend a large, urban, public school with 950 students. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 75% of our students receiving free lunch.
Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in our city.
Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Korean, Gujarati, Cantonese, and Arabic, among others! As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are also diverse learners.
We have many opportunities for growing as learners, including a STEM program, a full music program with band and choir, an Arabic language program, and many clubs, teams, and after-school programs that nourish and interest everyone!
My Project
Having an ETA Hand to Mind Daily Math Fluency Kit in our classroom will help my students strengthen their math skills - daily.
Our goal is to become Math Masters, and to do this we need to have strong math fluency.
Daily practice is one way to help build math fluency. This kit will supplement the materials we use in our classroom by providing a daily check in that is centered around math fluency.
This kit has engaging, hands on activities that my students will enjoy. Becoming a Math Master will be a breeze because we will have so much fun practicing!
More than half of students from low‑income households
