Math Marvels: Powering Up Supplies for Engaging Lessons!

Help me give my students the specific tools they need to complete their math lessons in 7th grade math, 8th grade math, and geometry courses.

My Project

These items will be used throughout the school year for multiple specific lessons in 7th and 8th grade math and geometry for individual and group work. For example, patty paper is used as tracing paper allowing students to compare slope in 7th and 8th grade math and practice rotations and translations in geometry. The dot paper will be used in a lesson involving area, students will build their own city and include as many necessities as possible within the given parameter. Students will explain the area formulas that they used and how it maximizes the use of their given space.

Students will use the half inch wooden blocks to visualize volume formulas and use them to solve problems.

The geometric solids kit will help students apply geometric concepts in modeling situations and help them visualize cross-sections in three dimensional shapes. Extension cords and power strips will aid students in keeping their district-issued laptops (and interest levels) fully charged! Most of our digital curriculum is accessed through student laptops and my classroom has a limited number of outlets.

Helping supply these items to lower-income students will allow them to focus on hands-on learning and creative problem solving. This project will benefit each student's learning as well as create a beautiful and bright classroom. But, will be most utilized by students furthest from educational justice.
