My Project
Our classroom is in a small school with limited funding. We are a village of 348 people and our students are predominately Haida Indian. Right now there are very limited math manipulatives in the school for learning.
I am teaching middle school and see first hand the lack of conceptual understanding of math from my students.
They have not had the opportunity to "build" 6x8 so they don't understand that it is 6 groups of 8. This is interfering with their learning now.
My goal is for our students to have the math manipulatives from 1st grade to 8th grade so they learn the concepts before moving on to procedural math.
