I teach 26 children alone in a classroom that is approximately 300 square feet.

It's little room for mobility and little time for individual student attention throughout the day. Small grouping is difficult as well due to the lack of space and some behavior problems but I do my best to incorporate it daily. Our school does not have any books nor supplies. Teachers here are designing our own curriculum for each subject. I am utilizing Engage New York for my math curriculum. A great addition to this curriculum would be to have manipulatives to enhance student learning.

My Project

My students need math manipulatives such as dice, fraction bars and base ten blocks to correspond with the Engage NY curriculum that we are utilizing. The various manipulatives will be used to play math games during centers and will be used to model math problems and help them find solutions. I want to create a hands-on classroom. Watching me write on a whiteboard and them having only a worksheet is not an effective learning environment.

We all know that all students learn differently.

Today's generation of students are into technology so everything is visual and hands-on. Math manipulatives will cater to those visual and kinesthetic learners.
