This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I absolutely love my 6th-grade students for their creativity, determination, and unique learning styles. Despite the challenges they face, they consistently show resilience and a genuine desire to learn. Each of my students brings something special to the classroom, from their different perspectives to their problem-solving skills, and I want to provide them with the tools they need to succeed.
The manipulatives I’m requesting will make a huge difference in their learning because they cater to various learning needs and styles, particularly for students with special needs.
These hands-on tools will give my students concrete ways to visualize abstract math concepts. For instance, fraction tiles, number lines, and base ten blocks will help them understand difficult concepts like fractions, ratios, and decimals. This tactile approach will be especially useful for students who struggle with traditional teaching methods or have attention challenges, as it keeps them engaged and allows them to approach problems in a way that works for them.
My goals for this project are to ensure every student feels confident in their math abilities, no matter where they start. I want them to see math as something they can master, not fear. These resources will help break down barriers to learning and give each child, especially those with special needs, the opportunity to work at their own pace and use methods that align with how they learn best.
What makes my students truly special is their determination. Many of them face challenges outside of school, yet they come in ready to try, even when the material is tough. They have diverse learning needs, and each day, they push themselves to understand concepts that don’t always come easily. With the right resources, I know they can continue to grow and thrive academically.
