My 6th and 7th-graders love reading about mythical worlds and exploring how the Ancient Greeks explored the world. \r\nRight now, my students are reading the Greek Mythology books to gain background knowledge as they read The Lightning Thief. They love making connections between what they read in the new books and The Lightning Thief. One student pointed out that the man with a hundred eyes was Argus from the Greek Myths and asked a hilarious question: How does he take showers if there are eyes all over his body? It's curious and thought-provoking conversations like these that truly make teaching a gift. My students are making connections between what they read and what they see every day because they had the opportunity to learn about Greek myths.\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were so excited to read the new books. I had a waiting list for the Theseus and the Minotaur graphic novel. Many of my female students were interested in the book specifically about Goddesses. After each independent reading session, students could not wait to share out about what they had read and learned. In our next module, students will be completing independent research on a specific god and presenting it to the class. Thanks to the materials you provided, students will have a rich and engaging source of information to draw upon.","fullyFundedDate":1759594518154,"projectUrl":"project/from-olympus-to-our-classroom-greek-myt/9781605/","projectTitle":"From Olympus to Our Classroom: Greek Myths Come Alive","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cheng","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8950039"},{"teacherId":1097550,"projectId":9506411,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations of headphones. Because of your kindness, my students no longer have to worry about whether they have the essential supplies they need to begin learning math each day. Something as simple as a pencil or an eraser can make a big difference for a child, and your donations have removed that worry entirely. When my students walk into the classroom, they know they are prepared and supported, which allows them to focus fully on learning rather than on what they might be missing.\r\n\r\nHaving consistent access to supplies like pencils, sharpeners, and erasers has created a more positive and productive learning environment. Students are able to start lessons right away without interruptions, and they feel more confident knowing they have the tools they need to succeed. This sense of preparedness helps build responsibility and independence, while also encouraging students to take pride in their work. Your donations have helped ensure that every child begins on equal footing, regardless of their circumstances outside of school.\r\n\r\nMath can be a challenging subject for many students, and eliminating small obstacles can have a powerful impact. With supplies readily available, students are more willing to take risks, make mistakes, and try again. They can erase an answer and rethink it without fear, which is such an important part of the learning process. Your generosity has helped create a classroom atmosphere where students feel safe, supported, and encouraged to grow.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity, your compassion, and your dedication to helping students succeed. It was powerful to see their pride as they looked back on the progress they made from the first quarter to the last.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the electric pencil sharpener we received came at the perfect time—our old one had just broken, and students were struggling to keep their supplies in good shape. We all had fun unboxing the package and learning how to use the features on the devices. It was exciting to know that they could not only speak one on one with the device in their home language, but they could take pictures of their classwork, books, any writing, and it will be translated to their home language! Another awesome feature is that they could also use it offline! Amazing! It's not just a translator, it teaches vocabulary, oral learning, recorder, and many more!\r\nNow, I am able to better support and communicate with my students and they, with other students of other languages.\r\nThe dry erase markers will last the whole school year!
