My Students

I work in a small school that is growing rapidly. There are 17 eager children in my second grade classroom. There is a large range of abilities and backgrounds, including poverty and trauma. In our classroom we work hard to listen to each other and value our differences.

We become a school family.

At our school we strive to create community and safe work spaces and our students rise to that expectation. They are caring and supportive of each other and work hard to do their best.

My Project

In my newly created second grade position resources are scarce. We are in great need of math manipulatives to make math instruction come to life.

I want to go beyond worksheets and create more hands on math activities.

I would use the dice to create games for kids to practice their math facts and strategies. We could use the counters to practice place value skills in new and exciting ways. We use expo markers daily as the students practice math on marker boards. This method makes it very easy for me to see their work and to quickly assess who is getting the lesson. The markers wear out quickly and are very expensive for teachers!
