Math Manipulatives, Graphing Calculators, Phone-Free Classroom, and Snacks/Water for Well-Being

Help me give my students graphing calculators, magnet algebra tiles with clips and dry-erase pockets. We need cold water in class, a cellphone lockbox with charging, and morning snacks as it's harder to learn when hungry.

My Project

My class sizes have increased this year, and that means more students to engage in different ways of learning, visually and tactile. Manipulatives that allow my special education students to be hands-on and learn through instruction with application showed to be successful last year, and expanding our options is needed. We also need graphing calculators for Geometry and pre-teaching their use for other science and math courses.

Hawaii can be brutally hot in August and September, and the students want cold water, and a lot of it, so a cold water dispenser in class will eliminate the distraction of a constant line in and out of the room wanting to walk the length of our building for cold water.

Cellphones are a huge problem! Last year, I told them that if they could not keep their phones in their bags, there would be a lock box this year. I am keeping that promise. They will have to check their phone at the door. Yet, as an incentive, I will make it a charging station as well.

Many students come to school hungry, and I learned last year that having granola bars and healthy snacks made a huge difference in my early morning classes. I bought most of it then, and even baked healthy goods for them. And it really added up by the end of the year. Now I am asking for help to give them something to eat before class starts.
