Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The young minds in our room are ready to experience hands-on learning experiences to build their abstract understanding of mathematical concepts. Research shows that students must first have a concrete understanding, soon building to a pictorial understanding, before reaching an abstract understanding of new concepts. That is why I would like to provide these magnetic tools for my third-grade students to access.

Building a concrete understanding of math concepts has been shown to increase my students' problem solving skills.

The number bond system and magnetic dice will be used for daily fluency practice.

The base ten system and value disks will be used to build a concrete understanding of place value and comparison of numbers.

The fraction bars and circles will be used during our fraction unit to reasonably compare fractions.

The magnetic clock will be used for telling time, finding a start and end time, and solving for elapsed time.

The magnetic money will be used for our counting money unit of study.

These tools will help my students create a love for math and build a foundation in concepts that will foster lifelong success. Our room has the brain power, we just need the tools!
