My Students

I currently a class of 23 fourth grade students at Francis Marion Intermediate School, who are at very different spots in their learning. I have three special ed students and five talented and gifted students who all learn in different way, which is one thing I love about them. I am planning on doing a blended learning approach for my students in math, which consists of stations, where they will be using games to reinforce math skills.

My current students, as well as all in the future, will benefit greatly with this project.

Research has proven that playing games in math not only teaches lifelong social skills but also will reinforce math concepts for optimal learning.

My Project

I have been teaching for 19 years and am always learning new things to use in my classroom. My students all have various learning styles and are at various places on their learning path. I would love to make math more engaging and meaningful for my class and for all classes to come.

Using games to reinforce math skills will make math learning come alive!

I want to work games into my math rotation so that I can meet with small groups of students to instruct at their level.

This project will give me the tools I need to make this happen! I will use the card stock and lamination to make game boards and math manipulatives that can be used this year and in the future. Laminating the resources and putting them on cardstock will make them more durable. The transparent chips will be used as game markers and the place value dice will be used throughout the year to reinforce place value and the different ways to read and write numbers.

Furthermore instead of doing pencil and paper quizzes, I would like to give each student their own whiteboard, which can be used for a quick check of each student while I am teaching. Learning can and is FUN!
