Our classroom is full of 18 adorable 1st graders! Their needs and levels vary from being able to read on a 3rd-grade level to still learning letters and sounds. They work hard to progress in reading, math, science, and social studies. They develop strong friendships with each other and work hard every day.
My students have a passion for learning and excitement for school.
They amaze me with the progress they make. Our little classroom community is a simple, yet happy one!
My Project
My students love having the opportunity to practice their math skills in hands-on ways. Implementing materials like these part-whole mats in the classroom provides engaging, productive experiences for students to engage in mathematical reasoning and problem-solving. Being able to physically manipulate materials develops a deeper understanding of math, which leads to more fluency with math in the future. The magnetic numbers are a useful, visual support during whole-group instruction. Students can easily maneuver the numbers, and see them. The color coordination can help them distinguish the difference between the parts and whole in an equation. This resource will lead to a deeper understanding of mathematic material as my students will be more engaged in my lessons.
