My Students

Math is a very abstract concept and difficult for many people and nowhere is this truer than in a 1st grade classroom full of 6 year olds. They need something solid and concrete to put their hands on and math manipulatives is just the answer!

We are a group of fun loving, excited first grade learners.

Our suburban Nebraska school serves a variety of K-6 students including those with special education needs and those from poverty situations. Each student in our classroom is unique and special and together they create an awesome community of learners.

My Project

Math is an abstract concept for our little learners. Learning new concepts is much easier for them when they have something they can touch and move. Unfortunately, my new classroom is lacking many of these basic tools. My proposal is for these tools, called math manipulatives, that they can use to solidify their learning. These manipulatives including shapes, pattern blocks, individual clocks, and counting tiles that will be used to teach a variety of math concepts.

The hands on opportunities that these manipulatives will provide will enable the students to begin developing strong math skills and understanding.

By supporting this project you will be helping to lay a solid foundation in math that will continue to grow throughout their education.
