My Project
I am requesting math manipulatives, base 10 blocks, interlocking fraction cubes, math fidget poppers and flash cards, to help my 5th graders understand basic math concepts. I would like students to understand that math is such an important part of daily life, because it lays the foundation for understanding basic problem-solving skills, such as how many pizzas to buy for a pizza party. Math also provides a framework for understanding so much of the world as well as supports logical reasoning and analytical thinking!
In addition to the math manipulatives, I have also requested some flexible seating materials to allow students to be comfortable within my classroom and satisfy their body's need for movement.
When students feel physically comfortable, they are more likely to mentally engage in the learning activity which leads to better learning gains. Fifth grade students are trying to figure out how to self-regulate so that they can be in the best frame of mind to learn. The requested chair bands and wiggle cushions are tools to help them learn this important life skill!
