Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Last year we were told we needed to teach a new math curriculum. A curriculum that is less focused on teaching strategies and more about exploration of ideas or concepts. The curriculum required a lot of differentiation to ensure that my students with special needs could access the curriculum. One way we made it more concrete and met students' needs, was by giving my students various manipulatives to work with.
My students process new information best when they are given concrete hands-on materials to help them explore and grapple with the concept.
Last year we created many of the manipulatives ourselves and it would be great to have the manipulatives needed for years to come. We have noticed that for my students with motor challenges having magnetic boards and manipulatives helps immensely too!
The manipulatives in this project will help my students across various units including topics such as multiplication, division, and geometry.
