This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Early mathematical and numeracy abilities serve as the foundation for all forthcoming math and STEM courses. Lacking these abilities, learners may encounter difficulties with more advanced mathematical ideas. It is crucial for students to grasp problem-solving, a fundamental early math skill, as it is applicable to all academic subjects and real-life situations beyond the classroom. By offering a range of math-oriented games to my students, they can establish a solid mathematical groundwork.
Math manipulatives promote student experimentation, prediction-making, and solution-finding through trial and error.
Although the teacher supplies the materials, the students are the ones propelling the activities. This nurtures critical thinking and strategic planning. Additionally, it serves as an excellent method to incorporate more hands-on learning in the classroom. Manipulatives prove to be effective due to their multisensory nature, ability to represent concepts in various ways, encouragement of student communication, and enhancement of confidence levels, ultimately reducing confusion and fostering a more profound comprehension.
I deliver educational support to students in transitional kindergarten through sixth grade via the Resource Specialist Program. Each of my students possesses an Individualized Education Plan and meets the criteria for Special Education services, with a range of eligibility categories including Autism, Specific Learning Disability, and Other Health Impairment. My classroom serves as a constant hub for students with diverse learning requirements. They arrive at school daily with a determination to achieve success. Despite facing cognitive challenges, they diligently apply themselves and demonstrate resilience.
