My students walk into Kindergarten so eager to learn and grow! They attend a Title I school in Virginia, which means most of the children come from single-family homes who are doing everything they can just to make ends meet.
When they come to school, it is my job to provide them with a warm, nurturing, safe place to learn.
In addition, I strive to provide them access to materials that they may not have available to them at home. With your donation, I can help my students become successful kindergartners!
My Project
My kindergarteners will be learning 100% online this year and we know young learners learn abstract concepts best through hands-on, concrete manipulation first. Currently, many of my learners do not have the tools needed to do this at home. That's where you come in!
The manipulatives I'm requesting will help bring Math alive!
A five year-old can only sit and listen to a teacher talk on Zoom and watch a slideshow for so long, before they lose focus. With the coins, shapes, and counters, students can become involved in the lesson by showing me what they know. They will be able to sort and identify shapes, practice 1:1 correspondence when counting objects, identify and tell the value of coins, develop number relationship fluency, and so much more!
This will certainly be a challenging and unusual school year for my students. However, with your help, I am confident I can make it a fun and successful year for them!
