This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a special education teacher in a low socioeconomic Title I school, all the students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. My class consists of 13 students. My kids are faced with many challenges in and outside the classroom. They are academically two years below grade level. Many of my students come from single parent homes. Although my kids have varying disabilities (LD, Autism, ED and Mentally Handicapped), they are eager to learn and succeed. I want to provide an atmosphere that is safe, and welcoming. Help me engage and inspire my students by becoming a partner in their learning.
My Project
My special needs students require hands on learning. Special needs students learn best when they are able to model and solve their math problems with the use of math manipulatives.
Math Manipulatives make learning math interesting and enjoyable.
Giving my students the choice of working on a page of problems with paper and pencil or solving problems with colorful and interesting shape blocks, fraction tiles or array tiles there's no contest. Manipulatives intrigue and motivate while helping students learn.
Help my students learn through a hands on approach. Let's enhance their learning while making it interesting and fun.
