This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The curiosity and love for new experiences are just a couple of my favorite things my prekindergarten students bring with them to school. They are always up for new adventures and even if at first they aren't successful. My students are a part of our classroom family from the time they arrive and continue to be a part of our school family until they leave us at the end of grade 5.

Prekindergarten students need a variety of hands-on math manipulatives while learning counting skills, shape identification, spatial awareness, and number sense.

Providing students with numeral puzzles, magnetic pattern blocks, spider and ladybug counters will allow my students to work as independent learners or in small centers with their peers. Providing multiple sets of the same manipulatives can be set out for students to work with a partner or to work on their own as they acquire counting skills and develop accuracy. Hands on exploration will give them a deeper understanding of basic number sense and give them a strong foundation of fluency in counting objects and numeral identification.
