Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a math specialist, I work with K-5 students who below grade level in math. They have huge hearts and spirits and give it their all. They may come to school under difficult circumstances but remain resilient and look at the celebrations to be have beyond the tests.

Working in a dual language international school, many of my students navigate a cultural divide with amazing grace.

Most of my students are on free and reduced lunch while also striving towards being bi-literate global citizens. My students work together as a community trying to achieve and be the best they can be.

My Project

These math games will be utilized with families to celebrate learning and develop math skills. Working with the most struggling students, many of my students have some level math anxiety and may not have the means or motivation to practice. These family engagement packs will help make math more accessible to all of our students, K-5, as I make them available as a resource to families to further STEM.

Building confidence in math and practicing math skills at home, in a non-threatening and supportive environment, is a must.

As a math specialist, it is my obligation to make math enjoyable for all students and fill in skill gaps. Working with students of all ages, I see just how crucial it is to engage families at each stage of development and provide appropriate interventions directed towards individual needs. This will be foundational as students develop the STEM skills needed for our future society.
