Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a math specialist, I work with K-5 students who below grade level in math. They have huge hearts and spirits and give it their all. They may come to school under difficult circumstances but remain resilient and look at the celebrations to be have beyond the tests.
Working in a dual language international school, many of my students navigate a cultural divide with amazing grace.
Most of my students are on free and reduced lunch while also striving towards being bi-literate global citizens. My students work together as a community trying to achieve and be the best they can be.
My Project
These math games will be utilized regularly in the classroom as a way to celebrate learning as they develop math skills. Many of my students have some level math anxiety and may not have the means or motivation to practice. These BINGO games will help make math more accessible to all of our students, K-5, as I utilize them in my intervention groups (both a push-in and pull-out model) and make them accessible to teachers and/ or families as a resource.
Building confidence in math and practicing math skills in a non-threatening and supportive environment is a must.
As a math specialist, it is my obligation to make math enjoyable for struggling students. Working with students of all ages and see how crucial it is to address each stage of development and provide appropriate interventions directed at each students needs.
