FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Fraas's classroom raised $194
This project is fully funded
I teach first grade. The school where I teach has a large population of English speakers of other languages. There is also a high percentage of at-risk students; approximately 75% of our students are on free or reduced lunch.
Math is a skill that is used in everyday life. In the past my students have had a hard time grasping problem solving skills and other math skills. I would love to bring more hands-on math items to my students to use and practice the skills they are learning.
By having these math manipulatives in the classroom, I will be able to let the students practice what they are learning with a hands-on approach. Hands-on learning is beneficial because the students can practice what they are being taught.
The math manipulatives I am requesting will allow my students to get more excited about learning math. It gets the students away from the everyday pencil and paper approach. When the students see you getting out materials, other then a piece of paper and pencil, their faces light up and they are excited about learning and practicing the math skill.
Having these manipulatives will give the students a more concrete image in their minds on how to solve a variety of math concepts. Hands on-math helps the students store what they have learned in their long term memory, much more quickly than that of a math lecture.
