Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in Northern California. I teach 45 energetic first graders from Spanish-speaking homes. The majority qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Some come from difficult circumstances such as broken families, poverty, health issues, learning disabilities, and language or cultural barriers.

My bilingual and bi-literate students come to class excited and eager to participate and become 21st century learners. Each student brings a unique style of learning that enhances our class community.
My Project
The addition helps students master the relationships between numbers. Basic addition skills give children a framework for mastering math. A solid understanding of addition and subtraction is essential for the development of later concepts.
The effective use of manipulatives can help students connect ideas and integrate their knowledge so that they gain a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.
These resources will make math fun and engaging. The use of manipulatives builds number sense in the concrete stage which later leads to the fluent use of abstract written numbers and symbols. These resources can be used in small groups as well as the whole class to introduce addition and subtraction.
