My students need time and measerment hands on math centers. We also need timers to help us manage our time. Bingo games will be of great use when it is to hot to go outside.
Walking in to class with my students is a happy, exciting time. We great each other by saying hello, sometimes in different languages. Its a class full of wonder and learning every day.
My students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 60% of our students receiving free lunch.
Our city is also one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Arizona. Many students speak Spanish as their first language and learning can be hard when you have think about a meaning of a word. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics. We are also a STEAM school and children are always learning how all subjects intertwine. To see them learn new things and start discussions is amazing.
My Project
The math centers will make a huge difference in my room. Over one hour a day is devoted to math centers. The students need a veriety of hands on materials that are grab and go so that I can work with small groups and help them gain the skills needed to be sucessful third graders. Children that are not afaid of math will be more willing and able to do their homework, which will enable them to practice math skills. The timers will help them to manage their time and be able to finish the center on time.
Fractions are everywhere and children struggle to understand them.
This is why I am asking for a hands on fraction game that they can play. The math bingo games will engage the students because they love to play bingo and be the caller.
