Help me give my students math mentor texts to introduce new skills, Mathlinks Cubes, and Pop for Subtraction and Addition math game to use in guided math activities.
Who says school can't be fun? In my class, I strive to make learning engaging and new for my students each day. My students use a variety of materials and resources to help ensure that they are successful.
My class is filled with adorable 2nd graders with a passion for learning and a love for school.
My students come to school ready to learn and often times don't want to leave. My school is a Title I school in West Virginia with limited resources. We have a high percentage of students on free and reduced lunch.
My students have a special place in my heart and I cannot imagine teaching anywhere else. They want to succeed. They want to please and they want to learn. They just need the means and someone to root for them to know that they can do anything. It is the best feeling in the world, seeing their eyes light up when they finally get something that they have been struggling with.
My Project
As Benjamin Franklin once said, "Tell me and I forget. Show me and I may remember. Involve me and I learn." The mentor text and supplies requested will help my guided math block be a success. The students will see math skills come to life through literature such as "Measuring Penny", and "How Big Is a Foot?". The games will reinforce skills and allow students to have fun while learning.
Every child will be actively engaged throughout the guided math block.
Providing students with a good literature, math book is the hook that the students need. I have used a few literature books to introduce new lessons and I see the excitement of the students when they know that the book that they will read will help them become good mathematicians one day. By providing my students with a math and literature classroom library, will help my students become better readers as also to become better problem solvers.
