it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project will provide second grade students with the essential math manipulatives they need to build a strong and lasting understanding of key mathematical concepts.
Manipulatives will allow students to physically engage with numbers and operations in a way that makes abstract ideas much more tangible.
By using these hands-on tools, students will be able to visualize complex concepts like place value, addition, subtraction, and even early multiplication, which are foundational skills in early math education. These manipulatives will help bridge the gap between theoretical learning and real-world application, giving students the opportunity to explore math through trial, error, and discovery.
My goal for this project is to create a classroom environment where students feel empowered to explore and solve math problems independently, using manipulatives as a bridge to their understanding. I aim to foster a learning space where students can develop a sense of confidence and excitement around math, knowing that it’s not just about finding the right answer but also about actively engaging with the material and discovering how things work.
What makes my students special is their diverse learning needs and unique backgrounds; many come from families with limited access to resources, and some face challenges in grasping traditional methods of learning. However, these same students show a remarkable sense of determination and curiosity. By giving them manipulatives to work with, I can cater to their individual learning styles and provide the hands-on experiences they need to truly connect with math in a way that is meaningful and fun.
