My students need exciting math games to help make math learning fun!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Velez's classroom raised $379
This project is fully funded
My Students
Math was always the most difficult subject for me as a student. It was boring and difficult for me to understand the usefulness. Quality math games can engage my little learners and help them socialize while learning. Math centers and games teach important social skills such as turn taking.
Our school is located in the busy Long Island City section of Queens.
We are surrounded by tall buildings with not much green space to enjoy. Throughout the year I have been making the effort to get them outdoors and into nature. Most children from the class live in the surrounding neighborhoods with little or no backyard space. Math games and centers are perfect for those rainy NYC mornings.
My Project
I can only imagine my little students' faces when we open a box full of math "toys". Clearly disguised as the familiar board games they have at home children will be eager to sharpen their math skills. Not only will their math skills soar they will also be learning how to play together in a group. With so much pressure on standardized students are left with little to no time to "play".
This project is important because it will make learning fun.
Important life long math skills such as elapsed time and making change will be cleverly disguised as play. I can imagine their little faces when I allow them the independence to choose a game and PLAY!
