This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"The first five years have so much to do with how the next 80 turn out." - Bill Gates Sr.
A typical day in kindergarten is very active and busy.
Students continue to do much of their learning through active learning and hands-on activities. For many of my students, it is their first experience in a school setting. Many of them did not attend preschool or pre-kindergarten. They are always ready and enthusiastic about learning different things and in different ways.
As a Title I school, most of our students are on a free or reduced-price lunch program. They are also provided with free breakfast daily. We have a large population of Limited English Proficient students. The kids do not see this as an obstacle. They are just as ready and eager to learn as anyone else.
Our school building definitely shows its age but as they say, it's what’s on the inside that counts. We have amazing students and wonderful teachers. We have many parents who volunteer their time on a weekly basis. Our school pride is evident as you walk through the hallways.
My Project
The years that students spend in early childhood education are very important. This is when children begin to develop many academic skills as well as social skills that become part of their character.
This is a wonderful age to get the students interested and excited about math.
These materials will do just that. The students will be able to practice patterning concepts when using the Hands-on-Patterning Center. The fruit counters can be used for many math skills such as sorting, patterning, addition, subtraction, and graphing. These different math activities will give the students a strong foundation in their early math skills which will prepare them for future math concepts.
The students will also have the opportunity to work cooperatively which will teach them important social skills such as to share, wait their turn, and take care of materials. The addition of these materials to my classroom will definitely enhance the student's daily learning.
