As a teacher with 12 years of experience, I have encountered many children. I have found that my children come from all walks of life, some having more life experiences than others. This year, I teach 3 math classes with a total of 87 beautiful fifth graders, who have found new ways to make learning fun.
We are a part of a school that focuses on education children in grades PreK through eighth grade.
The children and their families are part of a large loving community. My students are eager to embrace new challenges and are excited to learn new things.
My students are in need of classroom math manipulatives. Teaching math without proper materials is extremely difficult. I often find myself begging other teachers, buying the materials myself, or finding a way to do without them. My children need things such as protractors, cubes, place value kits, fractions tiles, and so much more.
As a teacher who is new to 5th grade and is teaching a new section, there are no hands-on materials.
By filling my room with hands-on math manipulatives, such as math in a can centers, a library of math manipulatives, resources for performance tasks, as well as math journals, students will become more engaged, focused and ready to learn. Imagine how far our children can grow, with only a few small things.
