Math + Literature = Success

My students need various picture books that will help them learn various mathematical concepts.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Provence's classroom raised $352

I am a fourth grade teacher at a public school. My school is a title one school, which means a majority of our families are in financial need. My students are wonderful children who have a desire to learn and crave new and exiting experiences.

My class is made up of very diverse learners. I have some students who learn by watching and listening to what I do. Other students listen to me but need to manipulate various tools to help them learn. Some students need me to develop various "out of the box" methods to teach them a concept. I have been trying to figure out a new and exciting way to teach my students mathematics. After talking with various colleagues I have come to learn that I can teach my students different mathematical concepts with picture books.

There is an important link between picture books and mathematics. The students will not realize right away that they are learning mathematics. At first they will hear a wonderful story, then once they examine and explore it, through discussion, they will see the mathematical concept within. I am asking for different picture books that will help me with this task. Books such as "The Greedy Triangle" which teaches geometry and "How Much is A Million" that explores our base ten number system.

These books will open new doors for my students, especially the ones who need that extra push when it comes to learning new concepts. Please be that person who will make a huge impact in the lives of my students. You can only imagine how much a gift of new books in our classroom will mean to my students. Please be the addition sign in our equation, Math + Literature = Success, so I can be the equal sign.
