it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My project aims to build math literacy among my students through the use of financial models and understanding of real world concepts. Students will be active learners in a classroom centered around vertical non permanent surfaces where they will complete discovery activities using white boards and dry erase markers. In addition, all new freshman students are enrolled in a “financial algebra” course on top of their math course for the first year. Because students will be in a math classroom twice per day, we are in need of extra markers and cleaning supplies to ensure a safe and clean learning environment. The books I am requesting will be a great tool for helping me teach students the importance of financial literacy early in their adult lives so that they are prepared for the outside world once they graduate. I am also asking for a lamination machine and lamination materials to be able to save the financial resources that I am creating for the students to reference during each lesson activity. A label maker will also help me in organizing the class materials such as the financial calculators that each class uses everyday. Each student is assigned a number for their calculator and the label maker will aid in making sure students are taking accountability and only using their assigned materials. The popsicle sticks will allow me to use methods of calling on students when they are not eager to participate, and the snacks will help as a tool for motivation and a reward for good group work.
