Math can be fun! Rather than simply having the students solve problem after problem, I like to turn lessons into challenging games that capture the students' interest. Math Jeopardy simply isn't the same without buzzers. With the use of "Eggspert", the classroom is transformed into a game show.
My NYC public school students are wonderful.
They work very hard and are enthusiastic about learning. They are also tech-savvy and become even more motivated when technology is incorporated in the lesson. One of my classes is an 8th grade class preparing for the NYS Regents Exam in Integrated Algebra (a HS exam). These students exceed the skills required of an 8th grader exponentially. The 7th grade classes I teach will be taking the Regents exam when they are in 8th grade.
My Project
With 33 students per class, it is not an easy task to make sure everyone understands each new concept taught everyday. This tool will benefit even the most reluctant learners. By playing Math Jeopardy, the students are empowered to choose the category and held accountable for their responses. "Eggspert" will help build their self-esteem and improve their math skills.
Finally, even the students in the back of the room can participate and be fully engaged in math.
We can review all of the math topics that are taught throughout the year while having fun! My students will rush to math class and want to stay after the bell rings. Their knowledge will be reinforced and they will enjoy every minute of it!
