My Students

My students are mostly low-income students being raised in a high crime rate area. Many students suffer from poverty situations such as lack of proper attire, food, and safety. When they come to school and enter my classroom, they know they are safe, loved, and cared for. These students are entering a precarious time in their lives. As a core group of only 8th-grade students, they are finishing their journey of middle school and entering a new environment of high school where the choices of joining a gang, getting involved in drugs, or focusing to go to college all become extremely pressured. I strive to impact them early enough so that the life choices and paths they choose will be ones of positivity and success.

My Project

Students crave a variety of materials to learn new materials. Math is especially difficult to not only teach, but also to find different ways to teach and practice material. Students struggle already, and to find something fun to help them learn is a godsend.

I have used VersaTiles in a prior math classroom with students who struggled and found great success.

My current class does not have VersaTiles and to be able to get them is a prime opportunity to help my current students that I just get pass up. I believe my students will find the puzzles to be engaging and will help them want to practice their learned skills. The opportunity for them to succeed can be limitless to the aid of resources like this!
