My students are born mathematicians, and want to reach for the stars.
They deserve the very best education I can offer them, and I believe we are in a place where we can do that together! The student body at my school is incredibly diverse, highly involved, passionate, and kind. They are going great places, and I want to help them get there.
My Project
My class is called "Math is Life" for a reason. What we learn in our room is applicable to the rest of our lives, and we aim to perfect our skills while we're in class. I aim to make that experience the best thing in my students' days. The methodology known as Math Centers will be essential here. Students will rotate between multiple small groups throughout the class period to gain access to multiple skills in deeply thought-out and scaffolded ways
All the research at our disposal shows that engaging, relevant, aligned, and differentiated activities and lessons get kids to learn better, so why not give them exactly that?!
Math Centers, I have come to believe, are the way to go to give each and every student what they need to succeed.
All of the manipulatives, learning tools, boards, markers, and game pieces that this project pays for will help my students learn and grow as they engage with mathematics in innovative ways. My MATH is LIFE Centers will spell out what my kids get stations such as Manipulatives, Activities, Technology, Help, Learning, Investigation, Fluency, and Evaluation. In each station, using the materials from this project, students will engage with old topics as well as new ones and learn using innovative strategies and games. Everything in this project, from the dice to the paper to the transportation caddies, will assist in creating these learning centers.
Most of the materials in this project will go towards the "Manipulatives", "Activities" , and "Fluency" Centers, as they are the ones that require the most innovation and hands-on-learning experiences.
