This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
These students have been through several teachers this school year. I want my students to get hand on learning with math. Many students who were doing well in Math have fallen below. Many of these students have lost interest and I believe having these simple manipulative around, math will be FUN!
My students are come from Hispanic background in a low socioeconomic neighborhood.
Many of their parents are immigrants who can barely even speak English. These students come from big families usually with one parent who is working and is hardly ever home. Many of these students look to school as a scapegoat. When school doesn't catch their attention, especially dealing with math they can lose focus and interest! I DO NOT want that to happen to my students!
My Project
I am asking for a few things like dice (probability), decks of cards (mean, median, mode, range, etc.), graphing boards, and multiplication flash cards and so on to enhance their learning. I want them to step out of the ordinary on the board math teaching...I want them to have FUN and get into their learning! After all, that's the best way they can learn the material! I am their fourth teacher this year and I hope to make learning math positive and fun, not intimidating or boring!
I came into the classroom with hardly any manipulative or materials besides the classroom and textbooks!
I want to give them one of the best math experiences they can have, mostly because many of them are going into high school next year!
