it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach Pre-K in a diverse urban elementary school that is located in South Gate, California. The majority of my students are from a lower socioeconomic background. My class is comprised of 24 fun and enthusiastic 4-year-old students. The majority of my students are from households with meager educational resources. Although they come to school with very limited skills and experiences, my students are hard-working, resilient, and full of curiosity.
Manipulatives for my classroom light table would make learning early math concepts easy and fun.
Learning math in preschool can be a challenge for young children. Number sense, sorting, shapes, and patterning are essential early education math concepts and skills that are best taught with hands-on materials that children can manipulate and play with as they learn. Most of my students come to school with very limited access to materials that give them a positive start in learning basic math concepts. The light table in my classroom could transform into an engaging math center with the right materials. Translucent math trays and manipulatives would give my students much-needed practice with Pre-K math concepts in a fun new way.
