Every day, my students come to school with smiles on their faces and light in their eyes. It brings unending joy to my heart to watch that light turn into the fire of their eagerness to learn. The fabulous second-graders in my class work hard every day to accomplish our class motto "Do hard things!"
I teach in a small, urban public elementary school where 78% of the students come from low-income families.
We operate as a peaceful community where each child is shown that they are cared for and that their teachers believe in them.
My students are full of love for others and excitement for learning. They are hard workers, talkers, problem solvers, helpers, readers, researchers, and lovers...their possibilities are endless!
My Project
With the pace of which math standards and curriculum change many of my student's parents are left feeling overwhelmed because they don't know how to best help their children succeed. Mathematical instruction is very different from the way it was when we, as parents and teachers, were children; therefore parents have a hard time navigating math homework in a way that makes sense to their children. I want to help bridge that understanding gap and make it easier and stress free for parents to be involved in their child's academic growth as it relates to math.
These Math Skills workbooks will help my second graders be able to increase their abilities by involving their families in mathematical activities.
Research suggests that students show more academic growth when their families are involved in their school work. However, some families don't know what they need to do to help their child or don't have access to the tools needed. These workbooks will be sent home so that families can practice math with their children without the confusion of what to do. We will have a MATH PARTY once all of the workbooks are returned completed.
I believe these workbooks will help my students through the variety of addition, subtraction, graphing, measuring, and word problem activities. I am asking for different grade levels of the book so each student will have material that is pertinent to their current level and how much they need to grow.
Please help me involve my student's families in their academic growth!
