My students need 26 math-themed books to enrich, reinforce, and extend their mathematical understanding in order to comprehend how math is used in the "real world".
Math is everywhere! And Math is for everyone! However, it is common to hear my students ask , "When I am ever going to use this?" I believe very strongly that every student can learn math and can learn to appreciate that math is a tool for life. Math is also fun!
The students in my classes are a diverse group with a range of abilities, interests, and learning styles.
Some students find math very challenging, while others are ready to take on new challenges. With this classroom math library, students will be able to explore ideas and concepts not typically found in mathematics curriculum.
My Project
Some of the books will be able to highlight students' creativity, some their love of literature, some assist students in learning specific concepts, some challenge students by solving riddles, and many will extend the math we learn in class into areas students may not even know exist. Students will have a variety of books to choose from and I anticipate many exciting discussions and activities developed from what they are learning from these books about math in the "real world".
The books in this request will give my students a chance to see the math they use in their everyday lives, in the world, and in future careers.
The books will help them discover that math is indeed every everywhere and for everyone!
