This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Did you remember playing "Around the World" when you were in elementary school? It taught us recall on basic math facts.
My students are in a title 1 school.
More than half of the population is on free or reduced lunch. We are in a low socioeconomic area, but that does not stop the students from learning and doing their best. Each day they arrive to school, they are excited to learn.
My Project
My students have trouble with basic math facts and counting money. We have math interventions each day, but I do not have the resources I need for my students. We currently share two sets of flash cards among the whole class. Students need these flash cards to practice recalling math facts and learning basics of counting money and telling time.
Once a week, we play "Around the World" in my class.
Students are still counting on their fingers and drawing tally marks to add and subtract. These flash cards will help improve the math foundations my students need to be successful.
