My students need a Chromebook, one sewing machine, stitching needles, four scrapbooks, one camcorder with bag, one SD memory card, and basic craft art supplies for math projects.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"When am I ever going to use this math concept in real life?" This is the prevailing question asked by 7th grade students. My students have not yet discovered how fun math learning can be, especially when the math learning involves a local, historical, and multicultural perspective.
Our school is in an economically disadvantaged, rural community.
The students have limited travel experience outside of the county and state of North Carolina. They enjoy learning activities that include hands-on strategies. The students are very creative and enjoy creating crafts, using electronics, and recording memories.
My Project
My students need a Chromebook, one sewing machine, stitching needles, four scrapbooks, one camcorder with bag, one SD memory card, and basic craft art supplies for math projects. The requested resources will help me to incorporate real-world applications of math. Examples of student learning activities for this project include scrapbooking of Pi Day artifacts, analyzing historical data from local PCB dumping, using the laptop for math research projects, and sewing a multicultural class quilt.
This project will make a difference in the lives of my students because they will have unique and creative learning activities from a local historical perspective.
Essentially, the requested materials will provide multicultural learning and real-world math applications.
