This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I’m starting this school year with a brand-new group of first graders at a new school. At this age, students are full of curiosity and learn best when they can touch, move, and see what they’re learning. Many of my students may not have access to learning tools at home, so having strong materials in the classroom is key. I want to give them every chance to build confidence in math by using fun, hands-on tools that make learning stick.

This project includes math manipulatives like linking cubes for counting, comparing, measuring, and building patterns, ten frames to support number sense and early addition, and geometric shape sets to help students explore 2D and 3D shapes through playful activities.

These requested tools will be used daily in math centers, small groups, and partner work. They are especially helpful for struggling learners and multilingual students, but also challenge advanced students by giving everyone a way to visually and physically engage with math. When students learn with their hands, they build deeper understanding and develop confidence that will support them for years to come.
