This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love that my students are visual and hands-on learners. For this reason, I try to find unique ways that will give them that hands-on experience so that they can be mathematized. Reasoning about linear functions is more than just graphing lines and solving 2-variable equations.

One of the unique ways that students can reason about linear functions is by using motion sensors.

These motion sensors can be plugged into TI-84 graphing calculators where students can then experience how their motion affects their graph. Students can then use this experience to graph and write equations of linear functions out of context.

With the use of motion sensors, not only will students build their own math identity, but they will also realize that math is not just about memorization. Math can be "FigureOutAble". Students will actually think and reason through these tasks.
