Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a math specialist, I work with K-5 students who are below grade level in math. They have huge hearts and spirits and give it their all. They may come to school under difficult circumstances, but remain resilient and look at the celebrations to be had beyond the tests.
Working in a dual-language international school, many of my students navigate a cultural divide with amazing grace.
Most of my students are on free and reduced-price lunch while also striving towards being bi-literate global citizens. My students work together as a community trying to achieve and be the best they can be.
My Project
I would love to provide some nice and sturdy flashcards for students and families to utilize at home. Families often ask how they can help their students but feel the new strategies we are teaching are overwhelming. These flashcards will allow a simple way for students and families to be involved in math as they build their own confidence. Flashcards don't have to be just about memorizing facts anymore. They can be used to fill in specific skill gaps and play a variety of activities that can help with patterning and higher-level strategies.
Having a bulk of flashcards to distribute during our curriculum night and math nights would love to increase student and family engagement in math.
These flashcards will build math fact fluency but can also be used creatively to look for mathematical patterns and build conceptual understanding.
These resources would be utilized school-wide, reaching all students in our school.
