My Students
Our students are obsessed with technology at our school. Anything involving technology, our kids are in! This includes one of our 8 activities, Math Lab. Our students are full of excitement when they come in, knowing they are about to conquer goblins, robots, and bats in our exciting math games. The kids absolutely love showing off their math skills as they defeat each level. You've never seen competition until you see these kiddos log in and begin their adventures online. They beg to play at home and they definitely keep their math lab teacher on her toes as they excitedly remind her to print those certificates of completed fluency! These kids are so special and they all come from different backgrounds, watching them bond and have fun over MATH is an amazing sight!
My Project
Have you ever sat down at a computer, excited to start on your online journey and picked up a taped up headphone with no earpieces?You turn to the right a little, already a bit disappointed, and see a rough looking mouse pad?YIKES!This exciting online journey has now turned into a boring one with no sound, because without earpieces, its just an uncomfortable piece of plastic you do not want on your ear.You may be questioning if you should even touch the dirty and obviously hot glued mouse pad, gross!
This is the experience my kids have every nine days when they come to my lab for activity.Don't get me wrong, they have a blast on the computers, but many refuse to put on their headphones because it hurts their ears or pulls their hair (our new set 3 years ago did not come with extra cushions like the previous years).I could replace them at the beginning when one or two would mess up, but now majority of them are broken and I can not afford to buy that many at a time.I also tend to only be able to afford the cheaper headphones which are not the best options in the first place.It is not easy to get a whole set approved through the school, especially with so many other teachers needing supplies.
In my computer lab, students have a blast.They are on a program called Imagine Learning.Students play a game, putting them on their level in order to become fluent in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.The game has awesome sound effects they love to enjoy and I don't blame them!They often love it so much they beg me to let them play at home.The students do not even realize they are even doing work.
