This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
NES is a small elementary school serving students in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade. Many of our students come from low income and single parent households. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch, and our cafeteria runs a dinner program so that no child under the age of 18 goes hungry after school.
The students in my classroom are scientists, mathematicians, readers, historians, explorers and adventurers.
Students will spend this year building a foundation in math and science that will help them be successful throughout the rest of their school career.
Each child in my classroom loves learning, and approaches learning differently so many learning strategies are used. These strategies include kinesthetic, visual and audio strategies. We incorporate a variety of instructional strategies that include group work, small group instruction and personal choices about how we complete activities. I am such a lucky teacher to be in a classroom with students who want to learn every day!
My Project
Student engagement and understanding are key to success. My students would benefit from these math games to help them practice their math skills in a different way, rather than traditional paper and pencil activities. Many students struggle when asked to complete worksheets and review in the traditional ways, and games are a great engaging alternative.
Many of my students do not have experience playing games, and these games would provide them with a chance to work cooperatively with other students while learning and reviewing key concepts in math.
Games in the classroom are a great way to review and encourage cooperation among students.
